Various minibuses are used that are similar to the one shown here. On average clients take 5 to 7 hours of training and assessment. RTA requires a minimum of 4 hours of assessment time to complete this licence.

What licence do you need?

The vehicle I want to drive	Rigid	Number of axles	Number of seats including the driver's	GVM
		2 or more	More than 12 adults, including the driver.	GVM not more than 8 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.

What do you need to get this licence?

• You must have held a class C licence (except a learner's licence) or equivalent for 1 year or more.
• You must pass a knowledge test and an eyesight test.
• You must either pass an RTA driving test or undertake Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (CBA).

Before you can learn to drive this type of vehicle, you:

• Must hold a current Class C licence or equivalent.

NOTE: You are not permitted to upgrade to a LR licence while you hold a P1 car licence.
