What licence do you need?

The vehicle I want to drive (Note the number of axles)	Rigid	Number of axles	GVM
		3	GVM of more than 15 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.

What do you need to get this licence?

You must have held a class C, LR or MR licence or equivalent for 2 years or more.
You must pass a knowledge test and eyesight test.
You must either pass an RTA driving test or undertake Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (CBA).

The minimum test vehicle for a HR driving test or CBA is a 3 axle rigid vehicle with a GVM of more than 15 tonnes - excluding bobtail prime mover.Before you can learn to drive this type of vehicle, you:

Must hold a current class C, LR or MR licence or equivalent.

NOTE: You are not permitted to upgrade to a MR licence while you hold a P1 car licence.
